2. Basic Information
Basilis no Musume, which translates to Daughter of Basilis, is a manga by the famous mangaka Chiho Saito who also created Shoujo Kakumei Utena. Basilis no Musume has 4 volumes and was first published by Flower Comics/Shogakukan Inc. in 1998. It is currently available in Japanese, Italian and German.
 
3. The Story
In 1925 Momiji, a pretty young horse coach, who looks after a mare named Basilis for Baron Midorikawa, Awa and Momijifalls in love with Midorikawas nephew Awa. But the old man wants the beautiful young girl all to himself. Awa tries to free Momiji from his uncles mansiom and comes to rescue her with the help of Basilis. The mare, however, throws Awa off and he is so badly injured that he doesn't survive the fall. The lovers are torn apart but Momiji is already pregnant with Awa's son Hiwa.
Time goes by... 1997. The talented sculptor Shuka Izumi, a descendant of Hiwa, creates the new Basilis sculpture for Ryuto Midorikawas Neo Basilis hotel. She is attracted to Ryuto and they fall in love but scared by his cruelty Shuka eventually leaves him. Later she moves in with Ryuto's nephew KazumaShuka and Neo-Basilis Midorikawa. Again the attraction to the Midorikawa family gets the better of Shuka and she falls in love with Kazuma. Together they want to create the Basilis sculpture for Ryutos new hotel in Paris. Though she's now with Kazuma Shuka just can't forget about her feelings for Ryuto... which one will she choose in the end? One thing's for sure: history always repeats itself and the bonds of Awa and Moiji, lovers torn apart so many years ago play their own very important part in this tragic love story.
